I need tomorrow morning off to look at another job, what can I say?!

Hi all, was approached on Friday to move my work locally, by another business.

I'm only on a temporary contract at the moment so it's good timing, but what can I say to my work so I can get the morning off?

Relations are good between me and my current boss and obviously I want to keep it that way. But I am currently an apprentice (and nearly finished) so I need to do this properly

Any ideas?

Start brewing for an illness throughout today and do it in such a way that your gaffer notices. Then when you bell them up the morning to call in sick they won't suspect owt.

I was off ill one day last week, and had a morning off for the docs

Didn't want t do that again but I guess I could say I have a follow up appointment!

Don't go the illness route if you can. Take the time and offer to make it back up or take it holiday.

I had this once when I worked at Rentokil. I was looking to leave. Interview lined up which was 200 miles away. I asked for a day's holiday which was refused for no reason other than the sales manager was a knob - hence my looking for another job. So, I decided I had no choice but to go off sick. Knowing what a devious bd the branch manager was I decided to take two days off as one day would look suspicious after I had tried to book it off.

So I rang in sick day one. I had a call back immediately from the branch manager saying I had to provide a Doctor's sick note. I explained this wasn't necessary as could self cert but he insisted and said I had to get one privately and pay.

I went to the Doctors and managed to blag a sick note. She was seriously unimpressed at my boss's insistence on a private sick note and urged me to complain about him.

I got home and about 20 minutes later said boss was knocking on my door to check if I was really ill. My flat at the time was in Sheffield and he had driven from near York to get there to spy on me!

So I as a 21 year old female had an uncomfortable hour sat in my dressing gown in my flat with my 30 something male boss giving me the spanish inquisition as to when I was going back to work.

Fortunately I got the job so had the pleasure of resigning. I also put in a formal complaint to the top dog at Rentokil which filtered down to the branch manager.

Looking back on it he probably was yes. It was my first job from university and I was very green.

Well it all went swimmingly. Glad I went. Need to find out about how much notice I give at this place etc (temporary contract so hopefully it'll be simple)
