Earning over the summer.

It's that time of year gain where I've got to get a job sorted out for over the summer while I'm at him from uni. I've got 20hrs per week lined up at our convenience store (worked there in various capacities since I was 12, ahem, 13) and it looks like I'll be able to blah a couple of paper rounds covering for paper kids who are on holiday etc...
Last year I did a lot of mystery shopping which worked well, but the same agencies seem to be pretty dry at the moment (of ourselves that could change, but in general there is less work there now).
I don't want anything that will interfere with what I've already got sorted, which is the difficult bit, I've enquirer about delivering our local free press etc... But it looks like they've got quiet a waiting list anyway.
I'm already registered with one poll / yougov etc... Which bring a bit in all year round.
Another ideas would be great, I'm just going in for everything's can think of at the moment!

Have you considered going on the game? It's a steady job, and you'd be working from home.

Local Tesco's and similar may well like temp staff to cover holidays - p, what about local bars if you have any bartending experience?

Tesco probably wouldn't be any good, as I expect they'd want first dibs on my time - I'd rather give it to the guy I've been loyal to for 11 years.Cheers

Bartending could work though as I assume it'd mostly evening work.
I signed up to a couple of employment agencies, and did all sorts of stuff. Anything from clearing tables at a wedding to delivering hire cars for Avis.
All I needed was a couple of pairs of black trousers and a couple of white shirts. I also had to supply the willingness to work hard.

I also did a summer working for Eurocamp. (Other tent based holiday jobs are available.)
I enjoyed it, but it was basically cleaning tents and caravans in the morning, showing people to their new accomodation in the afternoon, and getting pissed with either the customers or the other staff on site in the evening.
It was in 1999 mind, but I remember earning £97 a week, and living about an hour North of Biarritz for the summer. My liver took a pounding.
You're probably too late to get on a Camp America / Bunac placement, but it might be worth a try. I did 3 summers at a Camp, teaching kids to swim, lifeguarding, and playing games. It was something I would recommend to anyone.

Forgive me being direct - but if you are at uni, don't you want to be building some stronger career skills / references ahead of graduation - in a relevant field?

That's an interesting one, I have done in previous years, but due to the point of where I am in my studies there's actually nothing that relevant at the moment. The nearest I've been offered is as a shadow receptionist at a doctors surgery. I doesn't pay and doesn't actually utilise any skills that I'm going to actually need! Having discussed with my tutors they have all pretty much told me I'm going to be in a much better position for hospital placements next year.I admire your loyalty, but even for similar pay, don't you want to be branching out a bit?

Filthy dirty, tough work, loads of fun, a lot of money esp. if you get a night shift), also some factories ran regular clean outs at weekends
- catalogue distribution
Worst job, by far, was chicken packing.

I used to work in the chocolate factories around York in my hols doing shifts mostly packing sweets that was mind numbingly boring but occasionally got to do a bit of production.
Had some friends who used to work in th Malton bacon factory they had some horrific stories probably up there with chicken place.
In my final year at uni I decided to stay up there for the summer as we had a house. I applied for a full time position with a power company, analysing data readings but office based, 8-4 mon-fri was perfect. Did it for almost 3 months then jacked it in just as term started

You may find that the big companies have the best flexible working arrangements, worth a punt Bartending could work though as I assume it'd mostly evening work.
