Hi all, I'm currently studying a FD in engineering (specializing in wind turbine technology) and i'm required to do a 3 month work placement within the wind sector.

I am finding it difficult to fulfill this at the minute because i have no contacts in the industry and have to cold call on future employers which isn't ideal really. My background is in construction where i have 15 years experience and ran my own business for 10 years until the property bubble burst.

I took the opportunity to go back to study and have a change of career. I have my working at heights training, First aid at work, Manual handling and construction skills register card with wind turbine safety rules. I am based in Northern Ireland and would appreciate any advice or leads that could be of help to me.
Thanks in advance

PJ S

Good for you that you've done that, but don't let the "making the first approach" put you off.
Rather than call (gives them a chance to interact immediately with you, if you get beyond the switchboard), why not outline the above in a covering letter, along with your CV, and post it to each prospective employer or email them to save on postage costs, and quicker timeframe of receipt.

One of them might be keen to give you and them an opportunity to suss each other out initially, before committing to a permanent position.
