longest time for interview
Discussion
I applied for a company one December and heard absolutely nothing. Tried to call and check they'd received my application and was told they had and it was through the initial checks. Heard nothing again and assumed I had been rejected. Started another job soon after. Mid September I got a phone call asking if I could come to interview for the position.
Obviously not in a rush to fill their positions (or I was rejected and they backtracked...).

o.k had an interview back in march, now got a second one for July, and then maybe one after that. So would be maybe 5-6 months if I get the job. Seems a long time, but I have noticed companies don't seem to be in a rush nowadays to get people in. What are the PHers experience.
Not surprising in the current climes. Many companies are speculatively advertising for something in the medium term, or a vacancy once regarded as JFDI gets put on hold because a deal falls through or management get the jitters about the economy.Personally I'd be wary of any company taking so long to turn things round like that - what would they be like if you actually worked for them?
Longest time I had for interviews with one company was about 7-8 years ago, 6 weeks, during which they crammed in 2 phone interviews, 2 face-to-faces in London and 1 face-to-face in Paris. Should have paid more notice to my gut feeling; took the job and regretted it after 2 months.

cheers the job is extremely specialized working for maybe 1 of 4 plants worldwide so not too fussed about time as working currently, just musing..Personally I'd be wary of any company taking so long to turn things round like that - what would they be like if you actually worked for them?

I think the longest I had was around five months between initially applying and being offered the position.
I took an entrance exam and sent in my results online, was told quite quickly that I'd passed the first round. Around two months later, after I'd given up interest, I got a phone call one evening asking me if I was still interested in the position. After a chat and negotiation over a few matters I was told I would hear again tomorrow once they'd discussed the terms. Two weeks later I get another call asking if I'd attend an interview. At the end I was told I'd know by the end of the day whether I had it or not. Two weeks later I heard that I had the position and when could I start?
Having been here a couple of years now, it seems the whole recruitment side of things is a total shambles, as well as many other areas in the company. I now can't wait to leave.
As others have said, if things are taking too long or don't go smoothly during the application/interview period, it's a good reflection of the company as a whole.

I had my first interview at the end of April then invited back for a second in the middle of May. I was told I would have a decision early the following week, I then heard nothing for two weeks.
After chasing the recruitment agent who never answers or returns calls I was finally told I would have a decision after the weekend, this was two weeks ago. I made some more calls on Friday and left a voicemail stating I was ready to walk away as I didn't like how I was being treated, I had met all their requirments/requests and I now felt they were messing me about, I also suggested I was going to contact the employer direct to ask if I was still being considered as the agent was uncontactable.
As if by magic the agent called me right back and had spoken with the employer who apparently sends their apologies and will be making an offer to the succesful applicant on Monday.
I probably wouldn't have been as forward if I was unemployed and desperate for a job but as I'm in a good position I guess I'm not going to put up with as much s
t as I might otherwise have to.
If I hear nothing on Monday I'm walking away from it.
