Anyone work for an employment agency?

I was wondering if you would answer a question for me?

I am curious about how much an agency might charge a client who asks an employee to go from temp to perm?

Let's say for the sake of argument that the temp is being paid £10ph and the agency is someone like manpower.

How long is a piece of string? 10-20% of basic salary would be in the right bracket.

Also depends on how long they have been temping. When I took on a temp from perm a couple of years ago there was no additional cost negotiated as they had been with us for 12 months (4 renewals) and the agency waived any extra.

I am not in this situation yet, but i hope to be in the future and was just curious if the amount was high enough to put a potential employer off doing it.

At 10-20% of my first years wages i might even be prepared to pay the agency the fee myself in order to secure a job at a place i like!

I can't speak for Manpower, who do tend to be more expensive than most, but my agency does not charge after 13 weeks. If before 13 weeks it's 10% of salary.

Agencies cannot generally accept payments from candidates. There are very few exceptions.

For the benefit of doubt it is illegal for an agency to accept a fee from a candidate. There are some exceptions such as finding overseas employment.
