I am a contractor at oil company , been there a change in the dept as usual

They now want me to on to the on call rota which I am less then keen on . On call is not past of my contract and they expect you to be contactable and sober to come in and manage any thing that may crop up

Hence in my view they want your weekend to there's but they don't pay any extra for my turn on the duty rota

What does the PH collective think ?

Thanks

You should expect a fee for being on call, plus an hourly rate on top of that if your called out to go to work. Otherwise your essentially working the weekend for free, tight arsed barstewards.

Well, if you are a contractor and they want to change the contract then that sounds to me like time for a renegotiation.

Thanks for the replies chaps

Renegotiation is what I was thinking too

They want far too much for free and expect to get it to

No reward, no on call cover in my opinion.
I have done on call cover in a few jobs and I've always been given an hourly rate plus an amount if called out. As i get paid for it i will not drink for that week and won't plan things that take me too far away. My work have reserved my time.

If i don't get a reward I'd "not hear" the phone when it rang....
