Hugging as a form of greeting

I've just returned from a business trip to the USA. Much to my surprise I found the new "corporate" fashion is to hug your work colleagues on meeting, especially those you have known for some time. I found it very odd. Now, I am not in any "creative" industry and we are definitely not "luvies", just straight laced technical/ sales type people.

Anybody else experienced this or am I working with a bizarre sect?

There are few French and Belgian chaps who I have known for over 20 years who when we meet we usually go through the continental routine. These though are people I would happily invite into my home.

That’s my point though.

We expect that this sort of thing might happen with longstanding Continental types, but from our cousins across the Atlantic? No, wrong. Very, very wrong. Unless, of course, you always get a double room when you go away on business with them
