Expenses Problem
Discussion
Looking for abit of advice following an email from work.
can an employer ask for expenses to be paid back after the employment period is over?
these expenses date back from nov 2010, an they have only just contacted me asking me to pay the mistaken payment back.
i was laid off afew months after that date, so my main question is, do they have any right to ask for it back?
further complicated by the fact i got taken back on by them 6 month after the lay off.
hope someone can give me some helpful advice
cheers

Why are they asking for the expenses back? Assuming you provided receipts and the claim was valid, I'd be inclined to tell them to screw off. Of course since you're working there again it's a little more complicated than that.

You say "mistaken". If you shouldn't have the money, then you shouldn't have the money.

Yes you should pay it back, and you should have a good reason why you were hanging onto the money that wasn't yours in the first place...
i hadnt noticed. dont check the figures on the bank statement that often.was just checking if the fact it was after the employment period an so long ago if there was any time limits on these kind of things
