Construction managers - salaries - London

Working for a large construction company in London what would you suggest is a typical salary?

Many adverts seem around the 40k mark, but managers I speak to seem to be closer to 55-60k (this is on the books, not self employed). Recently spoken to some people on over 100k. They all site managers / senior site managers - basically running smallish value jobs / section managers on huge jobs.

What would you say is a typical wage? Plus any extras / expenses / fuel / car allowance etc

Depends, your obviously talking about contractor side positions but by construction manager do you mean site manager, contract manager or project manager?

Site managers really. They have started being called construction managers now which is confusing as construction managers used to be the top dog before the MD etc.

However, I mean site managers who can run their own jobs, meet the client, plan works etc. Not just somebody looking after the brickies etc.

However, could also be managers working on £100m + projects who are looking after a section of works.

For a site manager in the traditional sense they can expect 40-45k if they're on the books. More if overtime is available, however a well run site shouldn't need lots of overtime unless someone is taking the piss.

Contracting can be in the 60k+ (pro rata)range, sometimes even a 100 if they're on a good screw. But wages like that don't last for long.

Worth bearing in mind salaries have been squeezed in the current economic climate for some positions. So what people already employed are on and what is advertised for vacancies may not tallie.

I have no way of verifying this but the Construction Manager on my project has certainly alluded to as much.
