In my day a CV was basically a list of jobs you had with start/end dates andh an explanation of how you saved the economy single handed at each one. Plus a few lines of qualifications.
A couple of years ago I was told it had all changed. Instead you have a list of half a dozen projects/achievements with the jobs list tucked away at the end, and stick to 2 pages.
I did send such a CV off to an agency and was told "it's OK for contract work but too short for permie" and ended up sending my old style CV instead.
Yet more advice I've had was 'three projects/achievements then a jobs list'.
What do most people do? Is there a difference between getting past an HR filter and impressing potential bosses at small firms?

It's all about impact. You want someone to hire you over all the other applicants, so in as precise and concise way as possible, you need to demonstrate the impact you will achieve for that next employer by providing evidence of where you have done it for others (there's clearly more to it than that even, but that's the general gist). Good luck!
