Redundancy - To appeal or not?
Discussion
Hi All,
I need some advice and after being a daily lurker of this site for a few years, I am hoping I can get some advice.
OK, so last week I was told that I was under threat of redundancy and that I was on a 15day consultation period with a formal consultation meeting happening tomorrow. Basically I work within a small team for a global company and the reason for the redundancy is that it is more cost effective for my role to be carried out in Asia. Personally it can be done cheaper, but nowhere near the standard, but the company is looking at costs.
I have a colleague in the US who performs the same role and they have already been let go on the same day that they were told they were being made redundant. Basically the laws regarding termination of employment are not as employee friendly over there as they are in the UK, I also have colleagues in the Asian country who are not being effected, I guess they are cheap enough already.
The company has suggested that I look at the internal vacancy list but there is nothing there which is suitable. Thus I am resigned to leaving the company, however I have the option to to appeal against the redundancy decision but with my colleague in the US gone, I fear its already a forgone conclusion.
So should I give them the satisfaction of appealing or take it on the chin and move on?.
Is there anything I need to be aware of for the meeting or are there any curveballs that I can throw in to make it interesting?
Hope to hear some honest advice from you all.
Cheers
