Having worked as a senior designer at a building company for 15 years (my only 'proper' job), last year I found myself being made redundant and becoming a father at pretty much the same time.

I have started up my own business up, but things have been a bit slower than hoped.

Having gone from a well paid, busy, pressured, 8-5 full time job to working on a few small projects and looking after our daughter a few days a week, I now find myself becoming a bit, well, bored or just feel that I am not getting the chance to push myself, physically or mentally.

I have been on the lookout for jobs, but there really is nothing about, i feel like i need a new challenge to keep me sane.

Is the specials for me? I have known a couple of people who have done it in the past, and they loved it. I wouldn't say that i'm the most confident person in the world, nor the least - I an thinking something like this might increase my confidence and people skills and help me as an all round person.

It's not something i have considered before, but the more i think about it, the more appealing it seems.....

You don't have to be a people person to work in the Police wink

Seriously though, go for it! It will broaden your horizons, you'll meet lots of different people, be a challenge, be a laugh, be serious and you'll definitely feel like you're 'giving something back'. If you don't like it, at least you can say you tried it!
