I am interested in a job advertised internally but it means giving up my van and fuel car and then having to buy a car and getting 15p a mile allowance, having never had a mileage allowance before i wonder if i will be worse off!
Th job comes with a 5k pay rise though.

Tere is no average. 15p does sound rather mean, to be honest.

I get £600pm car allowance and 45ppm. That is reasonable!

Don't forget that you can, at the end of the tax year, claim the difference between the empoyer's measly contribution and the HMRC amounts, either via the SA process or via a specific form. You will need good records of exactly why you are reclaiming, i.e. Exact per journey records ( and equally you may not be asked for them)

Can you not claim tax relief on the shortfall? In your case around 30p a mile.

Beaten to it.

Yes you can do that.

I get an allowance of £580 a month then 15p per mile, and claim the tax back on the difference to the 45p approved rate.

Is the 15p mileage allowance, or fuel allowance.

If you pay for your company mileage fuel and you're reimbursed the HMRC fuel allowance for company mileage, would that leave you free to claim relief on the full 45p mileage allowance (which is another thing, is it not?)?
