I finished work last Thursday on the 20th for a break over Christmas and was due to return again today but I've had a chest infection the whole time I've been off. I've just been to the doctors and she's given me a sick note for another week.

Someone at work once told me that if you don't return to work after Christmas day and Boxing day you won't get paid for both days as it's seen as you were off sick those 2 days too.

Just wondering if anyone could clarify that or not.

Not sure but that would seem very harsh if they tried that stance.

The upside being, is that you might get the days off back to use at another time. Such as if you were ill on holiday IIRC you get that holiday back. I may be wrong however...

Always been the case at mine, if you're sick either side of a bank holiday you don't get paid for any of it.....not many people go sick around bank holidays there, applies to all staff as well no matter how senior.

read your contract of employment - it'll be in there surely?
