How do i know what i want to do..?

So I'm 17, doing IT at college, but the trouble is I don't actually know what I want to do.. I really like the software part of the course and the web development isn't too bad, but just how hard is it to get a job in either software development or web development?

I know this hasn't come across too well but I'm kinda stuck and not really sure how to get guidance?

Mate I am 46 and I still don't know what I want to do! All I know is I am never going to grow up and life doesn't last long, enjoy it.

I'm going to be 45 this year, and hope that one day maybe in the not too distant future, I'll have some idea of what I want to do for a career.

In the meantine I find that IT contracting seems to help pay the bills as I cogitate and prevaricate on the subject.

+2 Ok I'm only 30. When I was you age I din't have a clue what I wanted to do and just count myself lucky that I sort of landed on my feet in terms of where I am today.

What I do know is life is for living and when you're young and in to cars, motorbikes and beer as I was the temptation is to get a well paid job to fuel these habits. A slight regret is not taking a couple of years out after finishing A levels.

At 18 I still had allot of growing up to do, didn't go the uni route and found myself in a job I didn't like while my mates were all at uni enjoying themselves. I'd like to have gone travelling etc as IMO you've the rest of your life to work so enjoy being foot loose and fancy free while you can. Needed to work as I had a car loan to pay for.

I do have 2 years of college left after June so I'm hoping that will help me find something I definitely want to do!

Keep your options as open as possible. There are fields out there that you don't even know exist yet plus tech that hasn't been invented. All the majority of college it qualifications will do is get you through the door, what seems to count is experience and manufacturer certifications.

Your course will give you a good grounding, you will discover what you enjoy once you start doing it for real.
