Career change - ideas please
Discussion
A family member of mine currently works as a maths teacher. She got straight As at both GCSE and A levels and then got a first in her maths degree at uni before completing a PGCE and becoming a secondary school teacher. She has taught maths for the last 6ish years.
She is a smart cookie and works incredibly hard (too hard I would say), but is a little tired of working all day and coming home to marking until 9/10 at night. I don't think she enjoys it like she used to and I'm looking for suggestions for a possible career change. I think she would like to do something different but doesn't have any ideas of what she wants to do.
I know this is pretty vague but any suggestions would be appreciated.
I'm not sure it is relevant but she is late 20's and lives to the west of Oxford.
Thx

My Mrs has a Maths degree. Out of Uni she worked as a statician, then worked for a acturial firm, and for the last 5 years buidling models (the mathmatical/computer kind).
To be fair there's probably allot of careers they'd be able to slot into with mimimal training, all better paid than teaching. I've always been of the opionion that the best teachers and the ones who enjoy it the most are those who saw it as a sort of calling. Others have mentioned some sort of training type roll, is it the hours she doesn't like about teaching or is there more to it?
I know a couple of people with Maths degrees in our place, they do modelling a bit like my Mrs, computational fluid dynamics and such like. Very different environment to what your family member will be used to 9-5 and potenital big bucks to be made form contracting.
