Re Training - Calling all accountants!

Hello all

My lovely misses has decided she wants to leave the world of HR and enter the world of accounting.

She has decided to do an AAT course. Anyone have experience of the online courses available? Ie Home learning College etc?

any recommendations?

Any help would be excellent.

Years ago I used BPP distance learning for Stage 2 of my ACCA studies. It was quite expensive but very thorough. They do AAT as well so might be worth a look?

Is there no opportunity to do this internally? In my experience HR and Finance are best buddies. At the lower entry levels I have often seen movement between these 2 functions, sometimes via payroll or analytical/reporting/data manipulation based roles.

Check out Kaplan as well...Same sort of thing as BPP.

Payroll may be in Finance but it isn't Accountancy. Unless a Payroll Clerk also had accountancy skills they would find it difficult to move into an accountancy role. I've seen people move between HR and Payroll but never from HR/Payroll to Accountancy.

I did my ACA with Kaplan.

Best off seeing if there anywhere she can be recruited and get the employer to pay for her training while she works there...

I didn't say Payroll was Accountancy In many cases Payroll sits within HR rather than Finance too. I was just highlighting a possible path. You almost imply that a move into an accountancy role from Payrol is more viable than from an HR role.

Yes, but that's probably because in the last two places where I worked, Payroll was part of Finance. It meant that, when a member of Payroll staff expressed an interest in Accountancy we did a (sort of) secondment. But that's just the way we were set up. I do think that Payroll to Accountancy is Marginally easier than HR to accountancy because the former is more closely related to Finance.

I'm studying AAT with Kaplan doing day release in their Chelmsford centre - interesting course - not sure i'd fancy doing it all as home study - the 'Live online' system that Kalan offer seems to be pretty good though where you basically skype into a lecture and can watch the lecture / ask the tutor questions as if you was in a class
