PRINCE2 - Worth it?
Discussion
Hi guys....
CIMA qualified and Currently work in IB.
Have held mainly financial roles and currently business partnering. I am deciding whether to do PRINCE2.
Was thinking it could compliment my CIMA and if I wanted to contract in the future and it would help bolster the CV.
Some people say its worth nowt. Others are like do it to add another string to my bow....
Also. Would not mind a bit of further study......
Any opinions?
Cheers

Whar sort of industry, I am CIMA qualified 30 years in Project Mangement, Oil and Gas, and for me Prince would be a complet wast of time, if you are into Oil and Gas or Construction much better to do the Associate exam for the Institute of Arbitrators as a supplement to CIMA.
I am in financial services at the moment. A tier 1 investment bank. Unless the project was a mahoosive reengineering exercise, I'd be a bit surprised if Prince 2 would add much value in an IB. IB's are a bit like lots of fairly small simple businesses running side by side. Unless you're going to change a lot of them significantly and simultaneously do you really need all the project bloat? Do you want waterfall? Might be worth talking to someone in your project office. At least they'd be able to tell you what your current shop favours.

P2 has become a standard. If you're a PM you need it on your CV.
It's merely a toolset, so "not using it properly" shows you do not understand it correctly. In fact, in the latest incarnation it even states that following P2 to the letter will result in a failed project.
Cheers. I decided to sign up for it today..It's merely a toolset, so "not using it properly" shows you do not understand it correctly. In fact, in the latest incarnation it even states that following P2 to the letter will result in a failed project.
Back to studying!
If you already have other qualifications (CIMA), and unless you're expecting to specialise as a Project Manager exclusively I'm not sure PRINCE2 will add much to your marketability.
Its mostly common sense in terms of practical application within a project environment and you can pick up most of what you'll need from a couple of hours googling and wikipedia. It may be better to study for something more useful/valuable. CFA?
