Video CV..(eh?)

Evening all,

I’m on the hunt for my next role and have been merrily applying away for various job, one of the sites I’ve registered with have a section where you can add a “video CV” I’m assuming its just a short video presentation on you CV/Work history.

What’s the general consensus on this? In a jobs market where it’s more important than ever to stick out from the rest, is this something I should look into? Or is it just a waste of time?

Always wanted to be in my own movie!

I'd say that there is too much of a risk of prejudice. Human beings are naturally prejudicial on things they see so I'd think it was a potential disadvantage. Your skills, experience and qualifications are what's important, not what you look like... Unless you're going for modelling jobs!

I would refuse personally

If you're applying to be a session musician or mime artist, then it possibly has a place.

Meanwhile, back in the real world, it's bks.

In an ex-engineering company I worked for, engraved in folklore was an interviewee who entered the room, put a cassette player on the table and pressed play. This sounds equally amusing.

I've been in a group interview before where we were told to bring something that meant something to us. One of the candidates tried bringing a group of about 4 of his mates into the room with him!!!

As for video CV's, There was that case where the bloke set up a website and billboard directing to said site which had a video CV on. Though can't really see how it'd help for any 'normal' jobs, unless of course you are an actor or something similar?
