not sure where's the best forum to place this, but figures it's job related and there always seems to be engineers hangng around in here.

consider the following:

a bulk storage tank [2 x 1500 m3 tanks linked to common output] providing a head pressure to a pump of between 0.6 - 1.2 bar depending on the fill level.

the pump provides a flow rate of 21 m3/hr at 7.0 bar into a ring main. the consumers are level controlled and so return flow is also 21 m3/hr max [no consumer valves open].

i haven't done detailed calcs yet but the return pressure is likely to be >2.0 bar.

the return leg has to be tied into the feed line from the bulk tank.

my question is how to do this to ensure correct flow conditions are met - i.e. no backflow/stagnation of the bulk feed and the pump is always seeing above 0.5bar suction head?

do i need to regulate the pressure in both the tank feed and ring main return leg or can i get away with just one on the return?


answers on a postcard please. any web based resources for this kind of thing?
