Exit interview - Line manager is "running late"

I'm meant to have my exit interview in an hour as it's my final day. My Line Manager emailed me saying that he's going to be an hour late, which I strongly suspect is him being difficult and making me work right up to my normal finish time (this would normally be 5pm). However, on a Friday I finish at 4pm because I start early and he's probably forgot this.

As far as I'm concerned I finish this employment at 4pm, at which point I'm a contractor. I need to handover my laptop and mobile but he's likely to turn up at 4.05 just to make my life difficult.

What's stopping me handing over the gear to another responsible adult/Manager and heading out the door?

email back advising that you have somewhere to be tonight and ask if they can arrange another manager to run you through your exit interview.... if they're not happy with that, then hand back items and FO

When he/she turns up or calls again tell him/her that you need to leave at 4pm. It's only an exit interview ffs so it hardly matters quite frankly!

Frankly, with it being your last day there, I'm surprised you're still in the office!

I certainly wouldn't be waiting for some twunt to come and 'exit interview' me.

Stop until he does, - JUST to walk out ON time!


ALSO - make sure you do leave on the DOT otherwise it'll bug you forever - what an arse....

The correct reply from you would have been: 'Well you'll be having the meeting alone then, as I'm off at 4'.

I'm a permie going contracting. From Monday I'll be working for myself.

As a permie you may be contractually obliged to attend the exit interview under your Terms of Employment even if it is beyond your contracted hours. That's one of the many 'perks' of being a permie.

You may just have to suck it up and view it as further evidence of why you have made the right decision in going contracting.

Tell him you have somewhere to be, but will see him at 8pm. Or he can call you on monday to arrange to come and meet you wherever is convenient for you.

During the exit interview list 'managers unable to keep basic promises such as meeting times' as a part of leaving. Its on record for HR to see and is the truth. Matchings his game playing.
