How to get a sharepoint job

I have got over four year experience in software development (.Net, Oracle / MS SQL) and one year experience in Sharepoint 2010. In my current job, apart from software development i have been designing Document workspace for clients and i am really enjoying working in sharepoint.

I learned sharepoint on my own without any training; i like to do more work on sharepoint but finding it hard to find a sp jobs. Almost all the sharepoint jobs i have seen require more than two years experience.

If you're confident you know SharePoint then go for the jobs, be "creative" on your CV about how long you've been doing SP. The interviewers aren't going to ask for specific dates, they'll ask project based and technical questions.

I would agree that it is worth talking about projects and what you have delivered but would discourage you from being "creative". I would say that the most important thing is having a strong grounding in basics (C# and more recently PowerShell etc), listing any certifications you have and any third party tools you work with.

There are a lot of SharePoint jobs and people about, but like anything there is a huge range of skills required.

I do a lot of work with SharePoint, especially delivering Intranets and document management solutions. I initially got into it from being an end user who gradually took on more responsibility and getting involved in more varied SharePoint projects.

There are plenty of SharePoint jobs and you certainly have the background which should make it easier. In addition to the advice above I would recommend getting involved with the SharePoint community. There are regional user group meetings (try http://www.suguk.org/) and there is the Annual SharePoint Saturday event which is in Autumn I think. A lot of UK SharePoint professionals are also on Twitter so if you're on there I would recommend following some of those guys, especially the ones in your local area.

I'm in the reverse situation to you where I have years of SharePoint experience, but I haven't come from a typical technical IT background. I'm looking for more SharePoint Consultant/Business Analyst roles, but they often require C#, ASP.NET or infrastructure experience so I'm now building this knowledge/experience as well.
