New Job On Monday - How to Introduce yourself to your staff
Discussion
I'm starting as a Production Manager in New Company on Monday - i have started to wonder how to introduce myself in the morning - I imagine it will take place in the workshop after brief introduction from MD just before everyone starts.
Some Facts:
Me - 11 years experience within industry
30 years old of foreign origin, usually kind to people (but comes across as arrogant usually - I don't know why that is but have been told by many that this was their first impression)
Company: Small manufacturing approx 10 staff on shop floor
What I want to achieve: positive vibe, motivation but also respect
Any advice welcome...

1. Check pistonheads classifieds over the weekend
2. Buy a British* sports car, preferably a TVR with straight pipes
3. Appear on Monday in said sports car
4. Revel as the hot office totty throws themselves at you, offers of multiple bonuses/promotions/directorships etc.
* MX-5 is an acceptable alternative.

Spit whilst you are talking and leave your fly undone.
Whilst talking with fly undone, sneeze so the old man pops out.
Guaranteed to get you noticed.
It's only small so it might not get noticed...Whilst talking with fly undone, sneeze so the old man pops out.

Instead of spitting from your mouth when talking, make the old man spit?
Forget about getting their respect in the initial meeting. Respect had to be earnt (which takes time) and perhaps this is why some people have a bad first impression of you.
Just be yourself, be polite and keep it short and sweet and if you have to speak more than just giving your name and hello then say how much you are looking forward to it and you will catch up with everyone individually over the coming weeks to learn their role in the company and be shown the ropes.
Good luck

He could wear a name badge. This would save having to tell everyone his name.Just be yourself, be polite and keep it short and sweet and if you have to speak more than just giving your name and hello then say how much you are looking forward to it and you will catch up with everyone individually over the coming weeks to learn their role in the company and be shown the ropes.

Don't say anything negative at this stage, even about yourself as a joke.
Be positive.
Tell them a bit about yourself, what you've done and what you like outside work.
Most importantly, don't refer to them as 'your staff'.
They migth work for you but you're a team - you cannot achieve anything without them.

Ok, we can work around this.
Instead of spitting from your mouth when talking, make the old man spit?
Did that worked out for you - as in I need to be sure this method is tested - I don't wot to look stupid + I have tried similar performance on one of the job interviews and I never got the job don't know why? Do you?Instead of spitting from your mouth when talking, make the old man spit?

I think that the reason for the perception of arrogance might be because when most people say hello their motivation isn't:sickrabbit said:

You just want to say hello, not reprogram the drones. You don't know these people, how the hell are you going to know what motivates them or what they'll respect? Just introduce yourself.Gassing Station | Jobs & Employment Matters | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
