Interview next week - wish me luck!

I’m definitely nervous, but not sure if I’m also very excited… quite hard emotions to differentiate between sometimes!

The difficulty is I’m either the most confident person in the world or I clam up!

Best suit, shiny shoes, a bit of splash and a couple of espresso’s I think.

God, I need this to come off.

Ahhh man. Why do you not think it went well?

This will be my first 'formal' interview for over a decade.

Good luck fellas. Whenever I am pitching for a project I have a mental picture of walking into the building on the 1st day. It is definitely psychowkery at it's best/worst but helps me get in the right frame of mind for the interview.

It didnt go well as I was very nervous and didnt come across very well. It also didnt help that the questions in the interview were on a subject matter I knew nothing about!

I was quite annoyed really because over the whole interview process (test and interview) it was clear what type of person they wanted and it to me it didnt match the job description.

I had my interview earlier today and to be honest it went as best as I could have hoped. They said I handled all the questions very, very well and one of the interviewers outside said that I did a great job.

The difficulty is that I am not qualified for the job but they took my interview anyway.

I think I'll be offered a position but I'm not sure I could handle the pay cut. I could handle it more so if I knew I'd be on X after a year etc.

But yeah, first interview in 10+ years and I couldn't have asked for it to have gone any better.

I've been offered a contract of employment so happy days.

However, the money is going to be a big shock to me as it's more than 10k less than what I'm on (no mortgage or major out-goings though, so if I am to do this, this is when to do it...), it's a bit further away than I was hoping and I have to pass a drug & alcohol test which I should be fine for... should anyway haha.

I do think this is the right decision for me, but I'll be talking it over the weekend with my family.

What are you (potentially) moving from and to? If it's something you want to do, £10k a year drop doesn't sound too bad (depending what you earn now, of course).

33k to about 21.5k.

What would 21.5k net me after tax per month?

I do get a small bonus every year on that, and doesn't include overtime, which I need to find out whether I can jump on straight away or not.

My old man is being really negative about it, kinda demoralising when I know deep down that this is much better for me than what I do now.

Based on salary without any deductions (e.g. pension) that'll be £651 less a month. Not too bad, but quite a substantial figure depending on your outgoings.

If you feel the job is much better, then go for it. £21,500pa isn't a bad wage by any means.

Nah, you are right. I work with my old man and I'm 29 this year... I'm just sick and tired of doing this for the last 10 years and I haven't learned anything! I don't work for him, we are both employed by a small, private firm. Check out my post count over the last couple of weeks to show you how bored and disinterested I've been getting!

I work in a sales role right now and I know you can earn good money in my industry, I just don't think after the 10 years I am happy doing this. I can't see myself doing this any longer, let alone for another 10 years...

The thing is, I'm almost certain my boss will offer me another 5-10k on my salary when I hand my notice in.

I want a skilled, respectable job where I don't get bored and my job is varied and exciting and interesting.

I think my mind is pretty much made up and I think if my family try to talk me out of it, I don't think it would be in my best interest.

The only thing I'd say is make absolutely sure you are going to a job you know will challenge you and allow you to progress. There's nothing more frustrating than wanting to progress but not being able to.

I've got a group interview tomorrow, where 6-8 candidates are given a problem and have to work together to get a solution. I've done one before, so not daunted by it. If I pass this, I will be invited to a competency based interview on Friday. Again, I've had experience of these.

That said, I had an interview last week which went very well but you can never be sure that you are what the hirer actually wants and I am waiting to hear if I have been successful or not.

Wow, the stuff I have to fill out/attend is a joke!

Not started yet but...

- Aptitude test (done)
- Drug & alcohol test in London (doing soon)
- A full medical (after the above)
- Health assessment form (posted off)
- Contract signed (will do after test results & medical)
- Background check (had to fill out online and send across some further details)

I have a couple of other bits and pieces to do too including filling out the form (not p45?) to make sure my tax isn't stuck in the emergency code.

So I've not handed my notice in yet as I don't want to jump the gun. I'm sure my medical and d&a test will be fine but seems silly to cut ties before any of this comes back.

They'll know way more about me than I know about myself at the end of it!
