Starting a new job today around lunch time.

It says to wear "Smart business attire".
Just had a thought, does this mean a suit and tie?

Will be a salesmen if this makes any differnce.

Smart business attire means dark suit and tie, polished shoes and neat hair.

You'll probably find it means a tutu and matching fairy wings, so I'd wear that on your first day if I were you.

I understand it pretty much meant a suit but wasnt sure if I need a tie.

Not quite that dumb, and its my first job that isnt some crappy store uniform.

OP - turn up in full suit, shirt and tie.

When you actually get into the office, have a look around and see what they are wearing and try to blend in.

i.e. if no one is wearing a tie but they have their jackets on, just pop your tie off and undo your top button.
If they are all sat wearing a tie but no jacket, take your jacket off.

Just try and blend in and become one of the lads.

The difference between "smart business" and "casual business" is usually just the tie. Suit with no tie = casual.
