apply directly or through rec con

Ok so my missus is on the hunt for a new role. She knows someone in a particular (and pretty large) company and asks her to ask her boss if they are going to be recruiting in the future and sends in cv.
The boss responds and says yes we are actually the CV looks good and its interesting. Ill keep it on record but pls ask your friend to also apply formally when the vacancy goes out.
The vacancy comes out and she is just about to formally apply for it when a recruitment consultant she is registered with says that they would like to put her forward for the role.
i) As the rec con wasn’t the effective introduction for the role would the company have a problem about paying them their commission for the role in the event she is placed through them?
ii) As she is already on the dept managers radar anyway due to an internal referral for the role should be avoid getting the rec con involved for this role and just go directly?
Thoughts appreciated. She wants to keep the rec con on board (as much as she needs to) but equally wants to make herself as attractive to the company as possible (and if that means saving 5/6k on placement commission then all the better I would think from the co's pov?)

As long as she hasn't agreed to go through the Consultant then no problem, a simple "I know them personally so don't approach them for me as I'm already talking to them, but anything else, I'm all ears" should suffice.
The Consultant couldn't invoice/argue/be an arse as they've already got her CV directly from her.

Def avoid rec con, company will want to save the money and may be annoyed that you didn't go direct
