Background. 42 years old currently working in IT for a global investment bank. I've got a great job but after 12 years I am bored and fancy a change, sooner rather than later given my age. We moved out of London a couple of years ago so the kids could have a better upbringing and as I am valued by work they let me do 3 days in the office and 2 at home. Pretty much unheard of in banking I know.

What I would like. There are no jobs where we live so I accept I will have to commute. I don't want to work away all week then rush back for the weekend then back to work on Sunday evening, so was thinking of something with rotational patterns. I wouldn't mind a couple of weeks on/couple off, or month on/month off, etc. I don't want to take a big pay cut so something around six figures would be my aim. I've no skills apart from IT related ones, tradefloor specific so not directly transferable, however I'm bright and learn fast and a lot of things we do are managing risk/customers/infrastructures which are transferable. On this basis I realistically expect to stay in IT which is fine.

Taking the above factors my immediate thought was Oil and Gas as they do rotations and pay generously. I've travelled extensively and love it, rough and ready is fine for me. Does this idea sound realistic? Can anyone suggest geographical areas or companies to look into, or other industries which may be suitable? Cheers
