Consequences of walking out of a job...
Discussion
I was TUPE'd here from another firm where I was employed to work over varoius sites as a mobile engineer. Now, I do 4 days a week at one site and 1 elsewhere, I have pretty much zero overtime as opposed to 20-25 hours a month and instead of being on call full time, I'm now one in 9, which will further reduce my income.
However for the last 4 months, I have been underpaid. Not even seen my basic. Luckily it's only been a couple of hundred quid, so i can still pay my bills.
I do all my part- emailing my timesheets at the end of the week, but it's the office bird who is 'too busy to get them signed off'.
I've asked to log a grievence against her and have been told that's impossible.
How do I know I'll be able to clear my bills next month??
I don't like the day to day work, or the attitude towards me for asking to log the grievence.
I've been offered another job to start as soon as possible. Hence wanting to walk

Yup. Contracted to work 40 hours a week. Then o/t on top, which might be 3-4 hours a month if I'm lucky.
Edit....I'm not a 'contractor'...I am employed by the firm and have a full, written contract.
Well walk out then. If they pull you up on it, point out that they haven't been endearing to your contract so I'd like to see them try and do something about it!!!Edit....I'm not a 'contractor'...I am employed by the firm and have a full, written contract.

Good shout.Having a company van makes things a little more tricky!
If you have a job lined up and they are being silly then just do it.

Make sure you get the van signed off. Arrange a date/time to hand the van and any tools, equipment and stock signed from you.
If you just throw the keys in you may find a big bill coming your way for alleged damage or missing stuff as it sounds like they are complete dicks.
When I had a works van a few years back,I really wanted to put it in the car park and set fire to it !!!!
Childish but that's how bad it was.
Good luck

Could you not time stamp photos of the van at all angles including engine bay and wheels/tyres if necessary? If you just throw the keys in you may find a big bill coming your way for alleged damage or missing stuff as it sounds like they are complete dicks.

Just to cover your arse.

Unless you're retiring; how can not having a reference not be a bad thing?
It may not affect the job you're going into, but what about the one after that? And after that?
No matter how they've treated you, walking out on a job is a black mark - you don't get a chance to explain why.
It is pretty difficult these days to give a real reference. I wouldn't be concerned about it. It may not affect the job you're going into, but what about the one after that? And after that?

Can't really give bad references any more, dates/job titles is about all you can give it unless its off the record or managers know each other in smaller circles/industries.It may not affect the job you're going into, but what about the one after that? And after that?

Yep. One guy who was my supervisor was TUPE'd with me and left for the same reasons. He is my referee, so no probs there. It may not affect the job you're going into, but what about the one after that? And after that?
