Not sure if this in the right place but if not hopefully a mod can redirect it.
After 27 years of plastering at the ripe old age of 45 my bodies telling me its had enough.
I've been on site all my working life and the thought of a career change is somewhat daunting.
Have been considering trying to get into car sales for one of the large manufactures but to be honest I don't know where to start. Are there any salesmen / ladies or dealer principles on here who can advise me what courses / training I can do to improve my chances.

Well having working in the motor trade is various positions from Valeting manager to Parts Advisor. Try one of the big motor groups like Prndragon(trade under Strastone/CD Brammall/Evans Haslshaw)or Inchcape or Synter.After 27 years of plastering at the ripe old age of 45 my bodies telling me its had enough.

The problem is in the motor trade sales people who aren't selling aren't working!! meaning no sales no job!! Also try the website AMI may have some ideas Good luck

I got into car sales at the age of 49, having previously been a manager in the leisure industry and then in leisure equipent sales.
Most of the big groups are always recruiting, and many prefer to take people with little or no experience as they can train them "there way".
Have a read of this blog, its written by a guy who did just what I did pretty much, made redundant and needed another job.

The author is actually a regular PH forum contributor and may well be along shortly.
Expect a huge pay drop initially, most basics are £10 - £12k, but with commission you should be able to earn mid £20's in your first year and will normally get use of a car and maybe some fuel thrown in. With experience in the right dealer you can earn £30K - £40k or even more.
Just apply for jobs and try to learn as much about the company as possible. Also worth putting together a decent CV with a covering letter and spend a day driving around all the local dealers and handing it in to the sales mangers if you can, obviously shave and put some smart ish clothes on.
If your good you will stay at it and work lots of hours /weekends, if your not you will be shown the door inside 6 months.

Thanks for the info .blimey a cv ,having worked for the same company for 22 years then 5 for myself I've never needed one.
Being on low wages from the start isn't a real problem to be honest. The only real worry is if it didn't work out I,d probably have lost my regular customers by then
