Chasing an offer ?

So I had a final interview with a partner of a consulting firm last Wednesday which I thought went relatively well.

I've still heard nothing.... I contacted HR on Monday to see the usual timeframe and they said around a week.

I'm thinking of calling the partner tomorrow (he said to do so if i wished) just to see if a decision has been made and to reiterate I am keen to join..... does this sound OK?

For my current role I didn't hear anything, roughly after two weeks I got a phone call from a slightly irate project manage asking if I had decided to accept his offer yet.

It transpired that HR forgot to send the offer letter in the post! This was with a very large corporate firm though.

I just hired two candidates and my HR department took 10 days to send out the offer letter. Completely unacceptable, and without any understanding of how a candidate feels during and after the interview process, and the need to get a signed offer letter in their hand to give them reassurance that they job is theirs. Some HR departments forget that candidates are people!

We're not supposed to call candidates outside of HR but in this instance I called them every day to keep them updated.

I'd only look positively on a call from someone I'd interviewed (if they interviewed well!) - I don't think a polite enquiry will harm your chances at all, especially at the final interview stage and given you have been invited to do so.
