Turning down jobs

I know it pisses off the recruitment agent but does it ps off the employer? Are they unlikely to hire or even interview me next time say 2 or 3 years down the line?

Depends on how you do it why you do it and how they really felt about you.

Through an agency, and I say I've had another offer from so and so etc.

Just a little worried as in and around Sheffield there aren't hundreds of employers in my industry so don't want to alienate myself as have gone for nterviews and then not really liked the job on offer or the company and turned it down. but in future I might need a job at that company!

They can only offer what they can offer, it gives them a chance to make a better offer if it's that type of job and if they really want you.

Providing you dont tell them to F off, that's just the reality of recruitment.

Much better to turn it down politely at the start, than take the job and leave in a few months when you get offered the job you really want.

My advice, based on experience, is be completely honest right from the start with both recruiters and interviewer. You don't want to ps off a recruiter because they may hold the key to your next job, and you never know how quickly you maybe wanting their services again.

Letting interviewer know that you are being interviewed by another company again is honest, which will be appreciated, and may work in your favour.

This if you get in early their alternate choices may still be available delay and they may need to restart the entire process

I tell the recruiter I have other interviews and usually the interviewer and I always tell as soon as I can if I accept their offer or not. Just don't want to burn too many bridges.

Try and think of it as a marriage. Both parties need to be as sure as they can. A good match, both parties win, bad, both lose. The recruitment company are purely matchmakers. They get paid whether you stay married or get divorced in six months!
