Geophysicist is looking for an offshore job

Hello guys,

first of all, I am not a native English speaker. So, if you will finde some mistakes in the text, don't judge me

I studied Geophysics in Germany and graduated with Diploma (equivalent to the Master's degree).
I did finde some seismic offshore job ad's offered by seismic service companys. These companys offers both pure Geophysicist jobs, it means you seat behind a desk and do some seismic processing and jobs as an observer. I think this pure geophysicist job would fit to my qualifications very well. These people work in shifts, 5 weeks on a vessel followed by 5 weeks off schedule.

Another job type is seismic observer. I'm not quite sure if the observer job would fit to my qualification very well, what do you think? I wonder, because some of the companys are looking for technicians and others are looking for people with Master's degree or Bachelor.
Who have any experience and can tell me about the life and work on the vessel ether as an observer or geophysicist? And another question would be: Do you know maybe Geophysicist, who work as an seismic observers?

You need to get in touch with someone like Fugro and see what they have available. I take it by offshore you mean oil and gas? In which case they are one of the biggest seismic people. Jobs for surveyors are a slightly different thing but with your background I'm sure you would find work. It also broadens your horizons rather than just limiting yourself to seismic stuff. Agencies like NTC may be a good starting point, or try Subsea7. All in Aberdeen. Good luck and don't get disheartened at knock backs, it's a bd of an industry to break into cold with no contacts to open doors. Keep at it.

did you work as an observer or Geophysicist? There are some of the companys I will try to apply for, like: Polarcus, Seabird Explorations, PGS, Dolphin geophysical. Do you know something about these companys?

Hi, you are not suited to being a seismic observer with your qualms but as posted plenty if geo jobs going, try fugro alluvial in Great Yarmouth, they are a geotechnical offshoot of fugro. Good luck in your search.

Sorry, but i didn't understand your post! I don't think that I am a better person then others. And I dont really have qualms about how hard the work could be, etc. I had qualms about the qualifications required for the observer job couse the companys are looking for technicians and I am not a technician. So I thought my qualification wouldn't be enough for this job.

None of the above I'm afraid, far too poorly educated. Spent 18yrs as a diver in the North Sea, now work as dive supervisor. All you can do is send out CVs and hit the phone, something will give eventually. Don't limit yourself to North Sea, especially in the beginning, think Far East and Middle East to get your foot in the door, and be prepared to do long trips if asked.
