Carry on or try something new?

So I'm a courier in Cornwall, aged 28, 3 kids, mrs ect. Anyhow, work can be at times quite degrading with how I'm treated, it doesn't at all exercise my mind but I do get to be out and about, it's a fairly diverse and ever changing company that is growing pretty quickly so there could be some scope with regard to promotion. However, I'm tired of it and yearn for a career in marine engineering or yacht fairing / painting. It's a very relaxed trade down here, 5 days a week and good money if you work for yourself. I would have to go on an apprenticeship, the first year is piss poor pay and £3.80 ish per hour but steps up to minimum wage for the second and third year, we have found a way to get by for that first year until pay goes up but it will be a pitiful year fun wise which would burden the kids. The prospects after apprenticeship are pretty good, but I am worried about such massive upheaval at a complicated time in life, but I feel like I need this change for the sake of my soul and sanity. Any advice? Stick it out at work or go for gold? All advice welcome!

Only you will know the right answer. If it's what you want, know you will enjoy it and can be sure of employment and salary at the expected rate, then you may be good to go. If there are any doubts in your plan and your attitude to risk is really quite low, then staying put and maximising the opportunities there may be your best bet. Good luck!
