Qualifications for career change

Bit of a long shot perhaps but worth a punt.
I'm 35 with around 10 years of B2B sales experience and looking at a career change. Basically I want to do something that allows me to do contract work on a 6 or 12 month basis and take time off between contracts. I realise this usually takes both qualifications and experience and I'm not looking for a quick fix - if it's 5 years away so be it. I'm not in a position to do another full time bachelor's degree but I can study part time and can put some money into it.
I've looked into interim sales jobs in my area but it's very relationship driven so unless you have a glittering track record of turning around failing departments or companies it's a bit of a non starter.
I would say that I have good people skills, problem solving abilities and enough analytical ability to get through a BSc Economics. I'm not bad at sales but if I'm honest not great either and can't see myself doing another 30 years of this.
Enjoy being outdoors and solving practical problems.
Salary isn't the biggest motivation, more is obviously better but I can live comfortably on £30k.
Options I've considered so far are
Surveyor - seems to pay decent money after a couple of years PQE. Gets you out of the office. The route seems to be a 2 year Masters at a cost of about £8k which is just about within reach.
Procurement - seems to be shrouded in mystery but in principle I should have the negotiation skills etc already. Not sure what qualifications are required/advantageous.
I looked into offshore work but I've almost certainly left it too late to get into anything interesting without serious retraining. I've considered a trade but doing 2-3 years on ~min wage while training doesn't appeal and not many companies are in the market for a 35 year old apprentice.
So, over to you. Open to all suggestions at this stage. Opinions and experiences with the ones I've mentioned and alternatives I may not have thought of.

I have considered an MBA but it seems that would be most useful for a business/management career which isn't really the direction I want to go in.
To clarify a bit, I'm less interested in the Ferrari and the flashy job title and more interested in flexibility to take some time off and not be stuck in the same job year after year.
