Thinking of becoming a Driving Instructor can anyone help??

I'm thinking about becoming a Driving Instructor, Can anyone help me out? I have seen various courses on the net and Forums. Just looking for the best way forward. Hope someone can help me out with some more information if anyone has gone down this route.

It's challenging and quite expensive and not for everyone. Do you have the skill to coach others; are you a patient people person; and have you done your market research to determine demand and profitability in your area? Be sure of all of these before you spend any money on training. Good luck!

As per the previous poster regarding doing your market research. If you are still keen then I'd suggest having a look at the ORDIT register (Official Register of Driving Instructor Trainers) available through the DVSA and find a local independent trainer. With the big nationals you pay a set fee (around 3k, but may be more these days) and receive a set amount of training. With independents' you are more likely to pay as you go & receive more personal commitment from the trainer.

My Ex does it and has been for 10 years. Started with BSM, franchise and all that and dont expect to pull the money in.....initially. She then set up on her own and obviously the costs involved with that, it took he a bit of time to build up her client base to earn the money. Then we divorced and she had to move to where she is now and go back with a firm. But now she is back on her own again. Where you are makes a difference. She is in Aylesbury and is always busy with younger families wanting their 17yr old children to get a licence. But then if the place is saturated with DI's then you are fighting all the time to get customers. A lot of it though is word and mouth. And what does help is if you are woman (get that dress out!).
You get check tested periodically and if it still happens you get different grades.
You will have to start with a company which relieves that cost but the aim should be to get out on your own.

Thanks for the advice sorry to hear about you and your Ex, but on a positive point it looks like your still on speaking terms !

Oh its sorted. We still on speaking terms and it was a long time ago now. She is still running her own business and doing well. She got the house at the time, i got the Impreza.......now i have a V8 Vantage!
