i haven't had much luck 4 bosses in 2.5 years and all being pretty st in a multitude of different things. 1 threatened to have a fight as well as string a load of bullst out every 5 minutes.

My new boss having been here 2 weeks in that space of time belittled me, accused me of making mistakes therefore cannot do my job, even thou no formal training or documents to back it up, doesn't speak to me, doesn't respond to emails, already had 1 confrontation and walks round like she is sucking a lemon.

luckily i have another job to go to so instead of putting up with st for 6 months leaving her effectively in the st, but bad bosses have taught me 1 thing, nip it in the bud..

Any other stories?

Are you sure that it isn't you ? I have had an angry attitude, in the past, but somehow managed to get promoted so I was 'management' - not sure what bullcrap I uttered in the interview but hey. I hated being in management, and have since moved into a Freelance technical Niche, BUT now I understand the pressures that my hiring manager is under, and try to understand their problems and not to make more, and if I can fix some of the stress they have from their job. Perhaps even a little brown nosing.

Perhaps in your new job, you might apply my learning.

i understand what you mean but i have independent witnesses who agree with my viewpoint, as well as my work is recognized highly by the QP (equivalent of a doctor) you also seem to miss the point the turnover of management is massive, so would indicate senior management issues over my angry attitude.

i am very comfortable in my assessment and viewpoint and only time will tell if i was right...

but i would say my attitude does stem from years of frustration of broken promises and poor management practices. I have also worked in management so understand their viewpoint, but it is their choice too and they are rewarded for it..

Certainly seen an element of bad staff making bad managers.

If staff constantly operate under a "them and us" & "manager's forcing me to do things I don't want to" attitude, it makes working together nigh on impossible.

Too many employees can't see past the end of their nose, only interested in their own situations.

A healthy dose of bigger picture would almost certainly give many people a bit more respect for their immediate manager.

OP - from reading your other topic, where you have helpfully deleted all your own posts, I'm afraid you need to look at your own attitude.

Or less, depending on the manager.

From personal experience, far too many people seem to be manager because either a) they've been in the department longest, or b) they're the best at doing their job in the department, rather than any particular ability to manage an actual team.

One of previous jobs my boss was awful.

When he first started tried to run the department (accounts) like a military camp when before it was fairly relaxed. He had a rough Dublin accent and just wasnt a people person at all. His keyboard would be covered in dandruff, anytime you went over and started asking him a question you would be halfway through and he would just say "Wha" and you would have to start all over again.

He would also try to ask you questions with his mouth full and you couldn't understand a word he was saying. I told him one time to just come back and ask me when he had finished as I couldn't understand him.

Some the accounts staff were Indian and Eastern European (company liked to do things ont he cheap) and the way he talked to them sometimes was way out of order (think person shouting at a foreigner to get his point across but even worse) must have made them feel really small and must of been his way to make his seniority known to them.

Left on decent terms but glad I got out of it.

You wanted to have a fight with your manager? Never the right thing to do.If I had my time again at work I wished my temper didn't always got the better of me.

Calm down and be carefull how you behave unless you work for yourself and don't care what anybody thinks.

I thought it was the manager looking to have a fight - not the OP???

Explains everything, The Mental!

Despite 7 years of exemplary service my first, and last, female boss decided I was st and effectively hounded me out of the place despite it being a job that I thought would be for life spin

My worst boss was the woman that recruited me to my current job in 2002. As a side note I since realised that she offered jobs to people who didn't perform that well in interviews, as she didn't want people who would be a threat to her, so I must have been rubbish!

Apart from generally being a bit mental, she had a digital 1/0 approach to her staff, i.e she either loved them or hated them, so by extension they could either do no wrong or no right.

In my case I was the Wonder Boy for about nine months and then suddenly became the Enemy almost overnight. To this day I don't know why, my best theory was that as she was a massive leftie, when she found out I was really quite well off and unsaveably right wing, this riled her.

From that point she tried to make my life a misery. A high point was - in a fairly short period - accusing me of working too slowly, and being too slapdash in order to get things done too quickly. My response was to ask her which accusation to actually acknowledge.

The problem with her strategy - from her point of view - was that to me it was only a job, so whatever she did just washed over me, whereas she was one of those people whose life was defined by their job.

Bearing in mind my theory above, my favourite incident was when she arbitrarily withdrew my right to use my van for private use without warning, so I just went and bought a Puma that weekend for cash and brought it to work to show off. She went into an utterly massive mood and I was all "but you said I couldn't use my van any more, I thought you'd be pleased for me that I got a car and solved the problem".

When she left (to go on a sabbatical, confident the company owner would give her her job back, his classic response to me being "like fk I will!") I absorbed her job in to mine and it turned out she did next to nothing all day.

Oh, and she was fat and ugly. laugh

yes not me a warehouse guy, it was pretty mental as he was a bully and very intimidating and finally crossed the line into attempted violence over something stupid.

he also loved to have staring matches but he fell into the camp of 16 years working there, given the job, when out of his depth.

I've been very lucky with managers so far, my first one was happy as long as you got the job done.

My second was fantastic, she would help as much as possible, give me a bit extra to do to make the job a little bit more interesting (petrol station).

Third, we didn't always see eye to eye, however she was a good manager and towards the end I believe we got on. I think we are quite similar which isn't always a good thing.

Forth, didn't really see much of her, she was always busy.

Fifth I have known since we started on the same department, he worked his way up to manager and is brilliant. Always helpful and willing to give and take. His manager seems ok, not really spoken to him though.

Could be worse working in a supermarket!

If your boss is crap what does that say about you?

A turkey was chatting with a bull. "I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree," sighed the turkey, "but I haven't got the energy. "Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?" replied the bull. "They're packed with nutrients." The turkey pecked at a lump of dung and found that it actually gave him enough strength to reach the first branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fortnight, there he was proudly perched at the top of the tree. Soon he was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot the turkey out of the tree. Moral of the Story: Bullst might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there.

My sales manager prior to my current one was an absolute ahole, there are few people in this world who I despise; he is one of them.

He's definately not a people person and will actively avoid 121 confrontation, if he had an issue it would be sent via e-mail, more often than not badly worded, spelt and with apalling grammar but with a bullying tone, if you replied with the suggestion of a chat about the issue he would always decline.

Monday mornings him and his assistant would always try and go off for breakfast at the local cafe' at around 10:00 so asked that myself and my colleage would make no appointments on Monday morning thus leaving us free so they could both go out, if an appointment was made he would go mental and get us to change it, I would make up an excuse as to why it couldn't be changed so he would ammend the time on the appointment board; to midday for example, so that he could go out for breakfast and when my customer came in at the correct time he could say to the general manager that my customer obviously turned up early, if there were any issues.

He would actively discourage appointments on a Saturday when the F1 qualifying was on, so that myself and my colleague were free to grab any walk ins, which left him free to watch the qualifying.

Needless to say both myself and my colleague would try and get as many appointments as possible for Saturday around midday and Monday morning as it really pissed him off.

He shouted at my colleague once when he answered the phone next to the TV as he couldn't hear the qualifying.

I did something that was wrong however with my managers consent "as long as the DP doesn't find out" regarding a trade in, I almost got the sack, however my manager did this thing many times himself; basically buying a trade in seperately without clearing ut with the DP first, I got found out and was a whisker away from being given the sack, I knew I shouldn't have done it so therefore I didn't drop my manager in it however in the hearing at work my manager was told by my DP infront of me that as he was away at the time that he had the authorisation to let me do what I did, my manager kept quiet and pleaded my case, only because I told him that if I went down then he went down, I went in to the meeting with a list of cars and names that he had done the same thing as myself with in the past to produce to my DP if I was sacked.

Considering I covered his arse and kept quiet he went back to being an arse as soon as he knew that my job was safe.

Him and his assistant manager would always be in the office together chatting and laughing and generally being arses, if you went in it would all go quiet.

He bullied my collaague, mainly be e-mail, he kept them all for future ammunition, my colleagues father died suddenly however he still came in in the morning to sort a few things out and came back a few days later straight in, to my manager having a go at him for forgetting a few things, bear in mind that his dad had just died.

If you were invited out for an evening with the sales team but declined he would take it personally and even said "you will only get asked one more time, if you decline again then you wont get asked again" from that point I never went out with them again, he would also not include the eldest member of the team on these nights out, it all had to be kept quiet from him.

He also had a massive issue with being respected and making a big deal about it, these sort of people generally are dicks anyway.

There are lots of other little things that you can't put down in words, he was and probably still is, a prick.

I had moved to W.Mids and was offered a temp position at a huge energy company in Wolverhampton.

The boss was a CIMA qual who had moved through the grad scheme. Anyway, before the offer he made me meet up with him in his office. I walk in and the whole team is in there and he goes into what he sees fit to offer me salary wise.

My jaw dropped on the floor. I stuck to my guns and was offered what I wanted, red flags straight away. I don't want all and sundry knowing my effing salary lol.

So started the job, and it was incredible how much of a micro manager this guy was. every single day I would spend an hour going through with him what I had learned and if I did not go through it to his satisfaction he would dress me down across the whole floor.

3 days into it I told him to F-Off and walked out.
