I work with a Trainee Surveyor who is looking to complete a HNC in Construction at a local college/university.

However, employer (social housing) is refusing to pay his tuition fee's. Is there any financial help that he can get access to?

He's 24 years old, originally started with the company on a government backed employment scheme about 4 years ago and has always lived in one of our social housing properties. Not sure that any of that is relevant but there may be some loophole to gain funding that I don't know about?

There are a variety of options to securing finding for training. In this case, I'd make contact with the educational institution and ask about what support, such as a bursary, they may be able to give. Even if they can't/won't, they should be able to sign post you to other options. Good luck!

Personally I'd be leaving to move to another company that will pay. HNc should be a bare minimum in the industry.

If that's not an option he could use the offer from another company to get the current one to pay.

I'd maybe be asking questions on the ethos of a company that doesn't pay for training.

Other than the normal student loans you mean? These are now open to part-time students.

Is the chap in question in a role which requires him to be working towards the qualification?

In healthcare for someone to progress from a HCA role into a professionally qualified role they need to under take the relevant pre-reg degree - the numbers of funded places are very small vs the numbers of people who would be supported in applying for pre-reg.
