I obviously don't want to go into massive details, but I feel I need to seek some advice, maybe even legal advice.

I'm in a specialist IT role that is very bespoke, custom applications etc, I've done it for years and very knowledgeable regarding it.

A few years ago I fell out with my boss, and ever since it has gone down hill. I've been discredited for my work, as well as taking blame for their decisions. I've just trundled on with it.

More recently other sister companies have decided to get with the applications I manage and my boss has arranged some meetings that I have been excluded from, strange as I know it backwards. It's gotten to the point where someone has been hired to run the projects for the other companies, without me being told or asked to help find the right person. I wasn't given the opportunity to go for this role (public sector so not mandatory), but I feel let down by my company.

There have been big ongoing disagreements in the department, I've raised grievances regarding them, and it's got to the point where I've asked to leave, but constructively to assist the business, I get on well with everyone else. These grievances go no where.

We've come to a verbal agreement, I've signed nothing. But I can't help but think it's all wrong. My career progression has been hindered by my bosses personal feelings toward me, I've always been very professional, to the point where I want to just get away.

I feel the deal offered doesn't cover what I feel I've missed out on at the sister company, as well as a knock I've taken when moving on (as I said, my skills are not really transferable). I've been denied a bonus due to apparently not meeting kpi's, which I tried to discuss and was cut short. I've also been deliberately ignored for the other role, even though I'd be spot on for the role, as I've so much history in the applications. I also feel decisions made by my boss have pushed me into this or being made redundant deliberately.

Is this verbal agreement binding? I suppose I'm setting my self up for redundancy (which would be less than my agreement) if I stay working.

I want to cut my losses and move on, I suppose I'm taking it personally now too, but I can't help but think I could do more.

specifically what job?

I was also in a very specialist role, but the transferable part of you is not what hardware you code for, but the problem solving skills and application of skills.
I can't think of a single IT role that is not transferable.

I agree, but years of managing specific applications means I am very knowledgeable. Something the sister company could benefit from massively.

I'm angry that the business has agreed with my managers personal opinion of me rather than realise I have the skill set to take on the new role running and get it up and running quickly, as apposed to a new person coming in and taking time to learn what I do before getting started. Time after time higher ups recognise my skill, they have to approve the new roles, yet let this new role not even consider me on my bosses word, even knowing about the grievances I've raised with their management.

Sounds to me that maybe your bosses opinion of your talents isn't as high as your own opinion of your talents.

Meh. Move on. Life's too short. We all take a knock back on our careers once in a while.

What's the speciality anyhoo? Advanced MS Access?

What is the other role? Is it an on-going role? Is it not possible that this 'other' role is a contract or temporary in nature, less about the applications themselves than the managing of the project and requirements across multiple sites or organisations?
