Automotive industry (Property side)

I have always wanted to work in the motor industry but the opportunity has not really ever been there until now.
I may have the chance to move into a department that covers a number of automotive clients, from mainstream brands through to luxury/sports brands. At the moment the department works across the UK and internationally and is involved with the project management of dealership rollouts through to new manufacturing facilities as well as other things.
Having not yet had any experience in the automotive industry (most of my previous experience is in retail and education) I am keen to get an idea of what it’s like to work in this sector and would love to hear from anyone who works in the property side of the industry, either client, consultant side or contractors.
I really think it could be a great move and would certainly be a challenge/change to the educational projects I am working on.

To be honest, it doesn't sound any different to any other type of property development/consultancy.
It's certainly not a role that most people would consider as being in the automotive industry.

I work in the industry but not on the commercial property side. I work with some of the mainstream brands but also most of the luxury brands and I love my job.
I love it for a number of reasons but if you are a petrol head which you must be if you are on here then I would say go for it.
If you are passionate about cars etc then it makes the job far more interesting.
I moved away from the sector for 4 years and it was the passion in the product that wasn't there for me so I moved back.
Go for it.

I thought the same, although there could be some interesting funding/lease models around the premises but the will probably vary depending on whther its funded by the franchise or by the manufacturerIt's certainly not a role that most people would consider as being in the automotive industry.

I see what you mean, although I would imaging working direct for the likes of a luxury car manufacurer expanding there network around the world in preperation for new models would be very different to working with secondary schools to improve premises. MonkeyMatt said:

Hi Tank, just out of interest do you deal with the sofware for the actual vehicles, or general software for the company?
