Job offer No pension

Hi. Received a formal job offer in professional role. It's a smallish company.
Salary is fine but apart from annual leave, there's no benefits in kind. What's the situation with regards pensions now. It was a surprise that nothing is offered, but whilst it's never been anything to even think about in previous jobs, with the pension rule changes, should they have offered one?
Is it size of company that drives the requirements?

Even a small company should be offering you the option to enrol in a Stakeholder Pension, the rules changed recently and companies should now auto-enrol you I believe. That won't mean the company will be contributing anything though! I've worked for quite a few small companies, none have ever provided a 'company pension'.

Is there a minimum that I need to contribute to a stakeholder pension?

No there is a staged roll out of the new pension schemes for SMEs(based on HMRC Employer Payroll number I think) so it is not affecting all companies yet. My understanding of when it does come into play for each company, mployees are automatically enrolled and have to chose to opt out if they don't want to be a part of it.

My new employer have only about 47 people and they are not offering a pension until October this year. I think this is the last date available.

In the meantime, I think I am abe to pay into my existing pension scheme, until the new one is set up.
