To tell or not to tell

I'm currently in the process of looking for a change in employment, down to the fact that i'd like more responsibility and increased benefits package.

I am already at interview/assessment centre stage for a couple of possible jobs, and i'd just like your thoughts on whether or not, in a similar position, you'd inform your line manager?

For reference, i don't think there is anything my LM could say or do to entice me to stay in my current position.

Don't mention it until you have a concrete offer.

No good can come of your LM knowing whilst you still are in the current job but he/she can make your life hell in the meantime. Until you have an offer in your hand, it only makes sense to keep quiet.

Once you have a written offer, then let them see if there is anything they can do to make you stay but in my experience, once you have decided to leave, there isn't a lot they can say to make you stay and it sounds like your mind is already made up.

Keep quiet, get job offer, and enjoy resigning - you only get to do it a few times in your life and it is a liberating experience for a day or two....

The correct time to say something is when you have a firm offer from somebody else, otherwise you're compromising your existing position

Not sure what good you think would come of telling your manager at this point?

Even if you did think they might make you an offer to stay, and that you might consider it, you'd still need a cast iron offer on the table from elsewhere first.

On the flip side, they can't fix an issue if you don't tell them..
