Minimum Wage Question

Help much appreciated.

If an employee starts work in April, and would have all of January off to make up for working less than minimum wage, would they be entitled to additional pay if they left before January?

This is a position that my lad might find himself in. He's working around 55 hours per week at present an only being paid something like £5.50/hour at 21 years of age.

Don't fully understand your post, but 55hrs per week on NMW at 21 years old is £357.50 before tax.

If he isn't getting that each week, it is illegal.

Simple as.
