3 month notice - issue for new job?

Hi all,
My current job has 3 months notice period. If i were to look for another, it would probably be in engineering, either project engineer/management or possibly sales/estimating.
Would that sort of notice period put off many employers? I worry about losing out to someone who can strt immediately. Or even worse, losing out to that person after I've handed in my notice!

Nope - plenty of jobs have three month notice. If you have it in your current job, chances are your next job will have it. Never been an issue for me, both sides understand.

My current job is a 3 month notice period however they were happy for me to give a 5 week notice as there were no major projects happening at that time. I suspect most companies are the same it's very work dependant. If I were to try and hand my notice in now I know they'd want 3 months as we have a lot of work going on.

Different industry, but I have found it a PITA , lots of jobs and agents found one month a pain let alone 3, I'm currently on 3 months notice

Hmm, I think I'll not be able to trim it down and the kind of thing I'm looking for may not be particularly accommodating. Oh well, I can but try.

I'm on a 3 month one, most places seem ok, internal divisional move are being a pita trying to get it down to 1 month currently

Would you be moving to a competitor? I had 1 month notice in my last role and now have 2 in my current but it's fairly usual to have 3 in my industry so I don't think it will unduly compromise me if and when I decide to move on. I'm also looking forward to the gardening leave

I don't think you'll be able to shorten it (why would they?), so best you can do is just get on with the interviewing. If they want you, they'll wait. If you're not moving to a competitor, you may be able to get your current role to waive the period, but I highly doubt you could find out without actually resigning or letting them know you're looking
