Hi
I have just created my Jobserve profile and I wanted to know what peoples experiences were (ie getting called about jobs / roles). In addition do people have a preference for the profile or the uploaded CV. Lastly should I use the cover letter component of the profile or not bother.

I have a profile on Jobserve, Jobsite and Monster - I made sure each profile is exactly the same. I kept my profile quite short but punchy and ensured it contained the sort of terms and buzzwords that agencies would search for, no cover letter as I create a bespoke letter for each role I apply for.
In my experience I have not had a huge amount of success, most of the recruiters have not read the profile in any detail and get in contract for roles that are 150+ miles from home, very junior, or 1/2 the day rate I am looking for.
The other thing that I experienced within days was a bombardment of spam calls on my mobile phone from PPI claims companies, loans companies, and a long list of companies who read my on-line CV and told me it was shi7, but for £150-£300 they could re-write it for me. I am fairly certain that someone with access to candidate details is making a nice sideline in selling details on to some sort of 'spam' marketing company.
The other thing I have experienced is a relentless bombardment of calls, eMails, and text's from a company called apollo.eu who can only have got my details from one of the job-sites. If you receive any kind of contact from them ignore it, once they verify you exist they will not leave you alone - including text's and calls in the evenings and weekends despite the fact I have told them very clearly and in no uncertain terms I am not interested in the scam they are running!!!
It is not all bad, I have had some decent conversations with a couple of agencies, and a few applications for roles that were not advertised on the open market, but overall I have come to the conclusion that it is an easy database for companies to harvest your personal details and sell them on to tele-marketing companies!!!

Totally agree, LinkedIn has been far more useful....also, you can create 'noise' which will get people looking at your profile (endorsements, commenting in groups, linking up with recruiters etc)....MadDad - Thanks for the warnings. I was probably hoping far too much from Jobserve.

I was on it from the beginning till about 18 months ago when I closed my profile down. I tried all sorts of things to boost my exposure but had maybe 3 or 4 bites. I had nearly 500 conatcts and was approved on a number of skills. In the end I felt it was becoming very much like Facebook where I was spending more and more time on it with very little reward.
What I perceive my current problem is that I am hearing about roles far too late. Agents seem very keen to get 3 CV's down to the client within the first hour and because in the past I have not signed up for these "1 click and send CV" type websites I have missed out.
