Want a change of career to get into Quantity Surveying

I'm in my late twenties currently working in commercial underwriting but looking to have a change of career to get into quantity surveying. I've got a BA Hons in Law and an MSc in a subject that is RICS accredited that I completed in 2010.

I had always wanted to get into something to do with property but the economy was still in a pretty bad state in 2010 so I pretty much fell into the role i'm in.

I've been applying to trainee quantity surveyor jobs but i'm getting nowhere. I've tried everything from keeping things formal in my applications to being completely honest and talking about why im doing my current job and why I want a change etc etc etc but not getting anything.

Was wondering if there were any QS or recruiters out there with any advice on what I should do? I'm starting to think i'm going to be typecast so to speak and never be able to get out of the line of work i'm in.

I think firstly you would want to decide which part of QSing you want to do. Ie. Contracting / PQS. to be quite honest I think some conpanies would see you as over qualified for a trainee position. You sound quite academic so perhaps set your sights on more of a professional side of the industry? Have you thought about developing your law side? Your awareness of law would be a great asset to many companies but a contractor wouldn't necessarily see the benefit.

I'm MRICS having worked as a PQS but now use my QS skills in a Big 4 accounting firm. We have a few positions available for people from different backgrounds and we put people through their APC, give me a PM if you want more details

Otherwise, your law experience could probably work well in CAS/contact solutions?
