I handed my notice in at my current employers last week but wanted to leave early.

They have allowed me to use my remaining holiday days that I have accrued to allow me to do this. My question is, is will they pay me for these? There are something like 7 days which while I am grateful to be allowed to leave early, being paid for them would be most welcome!

Thanks.

You can't have your cake and eat it. You either work your full notice, don't leave early and are paid any accrued but unused holiday or you effectively stop work 7 days before your end of notice period but are paid for the full notice period. If you want to be out of the office before your notice period ends then the latter is likely your choice.

That's generally the way it works.

My missus did it the other way round, had a load of leave accrued when she left and no opportunity to use it so ended up getting paid for it. Extra couple of weeks wages in the final pay packet was quite handy.

I handed my notice in just before having two weeks holiday in my last job, so I didn't need to work my notice

Cheers. I thought it might be that way, just wanted to check as i've never left a role when I still have annual leave available to me.

So apparently I have 7 days annual leave to take. I have 12 shift days left at work. My maths say that I should be working 5 days as they are letting me take my leave to allow me to leave early, yet apparently I have to work 8 and they're letting me off a day, as they believe I should be working 9. Someone's maths is out.

I believe that this may be Because I have just had 4 days leave so they think I only have 3 left, but i started this year with 5 days carried over, and I accrue 1.83 days a month. My maths say that at the time of handing in my notice on October 7th I had accrued 16.5 days leave plus the 5 I carried over. By the time I leave on November 7th I will have accrued 18.3 days leave. So that is 23.3 days I will have to take up to now, though I had to take the 5 earlier in the year.

So far I have taken 16 days leave this year.

How is best to proceed with this? Should I contact my manager and make him aware of this over sight? The way I see it is that they either end up having to pay me for the 3 days they will owe me, or let me take those days as leave. I'd rather take them as leave if I am being honest.

I am concerned that they will try and get out of this and I will lose out. I am going to speak to ACAS as well to find out where I stand legally. I wont actually be seeing my manager until next Monday (my penultimate day) so obviously I want to sort this before then.

How would you go about it?

Thanks.

I left one of jobs early as I did not want to sign a new contract. I took my remaining holiday and left early and it was paid. How can not be paid for your holiday when you take it? Generally curious.

Politely ask them to explain where your maths might be wrong? Left field, but it might work.
