Good Job Bad Job

Done a few different jobs over my relatively short life. Tend to stay in the same thing rather than job hop. I think every job I've had, whilst enjoyable has a negative view of it.

Burger chain - What happens to thick schoolkids
Security - Bullied as a kid
Removals - a low class type job
Doorman - Thug
Taxi - Sexual deviant, probably a murderer, even worse takes the long way round
Railway, lazy, always on strike, pushes one button
I've not been an estate agent yet.

There are some jobs out there which have quite an opposite view
Teacher
Armed forces
Fireman
Nurse
Pilot
Paid charity etc


Where do these stereotypes come from? Is it media? Snobbery? Is it a real reflection of the folk that do these jobs?
It doesn't take long to find stories of the later group being involved in some nasty stuff and the former being hero's.
Always found it very strange how people were defined by a particular job, in some ways reminiscent of the Indian caste system.

I always found it odd that social workers are so vilified, yet nurses are seen as angels.

Both are public servants in caring professions, on similar pay.

Social workers are have to deal with people who will lie, cheat and harm. Often they want little to do with the care being offered. When a parent harms of kills a child social workers are hung out to dry.

Nurses are working in a profession where the people they help are their by choice, wanting that help, yet there seem to be loads of instances where patients are neglected, or even actively harmed or killed by medical staff.

not sure I would agree with your listed of sainted occupations

teachers - always moaning despite long holidays and populated by people without the imagination to do anything else

fireman - want full time pay for part time hours

pilot - posh flash gits

But agree with your underlying point.

Lawyers are routinely vilified but no other profession voluntarily does its job without pay to help those less fortunate

Yes sainted but as you say the reality is often different. Not necessarily for the stereotype but simply that good and bad can do that job

I think social workers are tarred with the same brush as many of their clients. Any of us may need the care of a nurse at some stage but that's far less the case regarding whether we will require the services of a social worker.
