Earnings, Jobs, P45, P60...
Discussion
- http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/manuals/pommanual/paye61185...If you change jobs frequently during the tax year, are not working for an employer at 5th April, and do not start the next one until after that date it can be a right PITA, especially when confronted by an organisation that demands you produce one.
OP, why won't he have the part 1A of each of his P45s? - http://www.taxrebates.co.uk/tax-guides/forms-p45-p...
He should also have all his payslips unless he has been foolish enough to lose or destroy them.
Employers must send in annual payroll returns by 31st May after the end of the tax year. Each employer has a tax reference number.
This can be obtained from each employer if he doesn't already know it. HMRC will be able to piece together his earnings history but it may take time.
Btw, where does the ER come from? AFAIK no such code exists.

Why do people seem to be having massive problems obtaining or retaining P45s? They are pretty vital documents.

OP - BR = ER
I think you're confusing BR/Wk 1 and BR with BR and ER.
ER used to be (Emergency Rate) was a single persons rate with no YTD, so £10K then 20%, BR (Basic rate) meant all was taxed at 20%OP - BR = ER

I think you're confusing BR/Wk 1 and BR with BR and ER.
indeed...

Does an ex-employer have to raise a P60 for current employees AND anyone who was and employee in a tax year?
"the lads" had 4 jobs in 2015-2016 (so far) and been on BR and ER tax codes, probably wont have his P45s
cheers
