It's Boxing Day but it isn't.

Hi all, my Mum was explaining to me today what they have done at her workplace..

She works Weekends and the standard is any bank holiday is paid overtime.

She worked Boxing Day (Saturday 26th) expecting to be paid overtime but wasn't paid it. After asking why they have turned round and said they are only recognizing Monday (1st) as Boxing day. In my eyes this seems Ludicrous. Also none of them were able to book the Saturday off. The reason.. Because it's a bank holiday. She's contacted HR who have confirmed this is the case.

Am I missing something? Is this allowed?

Boxing Day was on Saturday 26th. The bank holiday was on Monday 28th.

But from these parts below it sounds like they're trying to have it both ways:

I didn't think any bank holidays were on a Saturday or Sunday.

If Christmas Day had fallen on the Saturday, would she have had to work it for normal pay. Because the firm said Christmas day was actually Monday the 27th?
