The next step hmm ?
Discussion
Since late last year I have been working as a business development executive. Basically I go into supermarkets and small stores to try and increase sales of products by sourcing opportunities for additional displays on the shop floor. I enjoy the flexibility of the job and the freedom I have throughout the day. I have a company car and get good benefits. The pay isn't the best but I am doing this role purely to gain experience. I will be doing the job for the whole year but after that I am going to start looking to move on.
I want to start considering my future now so that I am better equipt when the time comes for change. One thing I do miss is the social side of working. I spend all my time driving up and down the motorway and only really interact with people at the stores. It can be boring sometimes but I usually pass that time by putting on the radio or adding in an additional call. I enjoy working with others on projects and actually doing a job which adds value or benefits the community in some way.
The purpose of this thread is to hear what others have done after doing a sales/business development role. I want to try get a bit more direction on where i am going.

Titles mean different things to different jobs, BizDev is many things, it's more about everything leading up to the sale.
Some companies see a BD as the guy who cold calls and the Acc Mgr as the one who deals with existing customers. It's a common misconception or misuse of the title to assume a BDM is a cold caller or door knocker, but if you go for roles in IT for example after this, that's probably what you're looking for. It sounds like you're more in the promo+marketing side, and once you're in FMCG for example, it's hard to transition out because it's quite specialist. You'd probably need to look at product manager type roles or product marketing manager. Your clients would probably be the first port of call tbh as you already have specialist knowledge of them, but it'd depend on what's in your contract.
